Location

20070703017-1024x682The village of Santa Cruz is accessible only by boat.

If you are traveling from Panajachel proceed to the public boat dock called Tzanjuyu (san-hoo-yoo) that serves San Pedro and Santa Cruz. Your shuttle driver can drop you at the dock or you can take a Q5 tuk tuk from anywhere in Panajachel.  Once at the dock you can travel by either private or public boat. Public boats leave every 20 to 30 minutes and cost Q10 per person to Santa Cruz. Private boats to Santa Cruz should cost around Q100 to Q150 depending on your bargaining skills. The boats begin running around 6:30am and the last is at 7:30pm.  We recommend you do not ask how much the public boat costs but rather tell the driver where you want to go and have Q10 per person available when you arrive in Santa Cruz. If you are traveling with lots of luggage prepare to pay a bit more.

When you arrive in Santa Cruz, La Iguana Perdida is directly in front of the dock on your right hand side. Come straight up to the bar and a staff member will be there to check you in.

Airport

The easiest way to get to Guatemala is by airport. There are multiple flights to La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City.

Shuttle

The easiest way to get to the lake from the airport in Guatemala City is by private shuttle to Panajachel. Let us know and we can book this 2 1/2 hour trip for you for around $100 total, depending on the number of passengers. There are also public collective shuttles leaving the airport three times a day for the lake and they depart at 6 am, 11:00 am and 2:30 pm and cost is $25 per person. The collective shuttles stop in Antigua before coming to the lake so total travel time is around 4 hours. There are unfortunately no regular buses with service from the airport, so shuttles (mini-buses) are the only option.
